Hectoliters of ink have been poured on the Polish tragedy that has seen mowing an entire ruling class, the 97 victims of air tragedy of Smolensk. I soffermerei here reflections on the tragedy that has and will have on the immediate political future and that deserves a thorough, what struck me most to blow hot - and I think everyone - is the incredible coincidences whole story: today, like 70 years ago, the ex-Soviet country loses in a single shot in violent circumstances and most of its elite political, financial and military analogy too obvious not to be immediately detected by Polish citizens and observers from around the world . Fatality? Destiny? Human error? Anything else? These questions are dismayed that run on the network, in blogs and online newspapers. Some speak of those who curse and a sort of "synchronicity iunghiana" between present and past, and ch i, like Barbara Kotlarczyk La Stampa (interview by Marco Zatterin •) can not get over it: "How was it possible that the fog is checked so quickly, on a day that heralded the rising sun beautiful? When we arrived the sky was shining ... ", it torments the old lady.
Of all the images that remind us of Saturday morning, painful like pins, the Smolensk air disaster, there is one that will remain unforgettable: a small man with gray hair now, kneeling in front of the coffin, decked with flags of his twin brother, and behind him is receding, even only to let his uncle, a young woman dressed in black who has lost in a moment the father and mother (the body which has not yet been identified in the mass of charred victims).
It 'a scene almost private, even in the large gray area of an airport windy, with the crowd of officials and journalists, the squads and the military banda, televisions in the world that peer through their prying targets the faces and gestures of pain .
Then there are the images of thousands of people lay flowers and candles, the strong emotion of the people on the street, the wing of the plane hanging from the branch of a tall tree, clear sad to Katyn, the hugs, the less ritual Usually, among the politicians.
I wish this great tragedy not only of the Polish people, and those who are friends, but it was felt by all Europeans. Because even if some of the people who died Saturday morning, were skeptical idea of European unity, and were opposed in the name of national interest, the horrible massacre that took place seventy years ago in the forests, and the fatal plane crash the other day, are part of the history of all Europe.

• The Katyn Forest massacre (Source: Wikipedia). Also known more simply as the Katyn Massacre, took place during World War II and caused the mass execution by the Soviets , the Polish soldiers and civilians. The expression was initially reported only in the massacre of Polish officers held the prison camp Kozielsk , which occurred precisely in the forest of Katyn , near the village of Gnezdovo , a short distance from Smolensk . Currently, the term denotes instead the murder of 21,857 Polish citizens [1] : the prisoners of war camps Kozielsk, Starobielsk and Ostashkov and inmates of prisons of Belarus and Ukraine, Stalin in the Katyn forest and in the prisons of Kalinin (Tver) , Kharkov and other Soviet cities. Westerners get killed on the orders of
Many Poles were captured following the invasion and defeat of Poland by the Germans and Soviets in September 1939 . Were interned in various detention camps, including the best known are Ostashkov , Kozielsk and Starobielsk . Kozielsk Starobielsk and were used primarily for officers, while Ostashkov contained mainly guides, gendarmes, police and jailers. Contrary to widespread belief, only 8,000 of the approximately 15,000 prisoners of war were officers of these fields.
The Katyn massacre, because it does reflect aspects of the emerging Stalinist dictatorship that has long been embarrassing to acknowledge, namely the highly repressive and imperialistic tendencies. The massacre responded to a precise logic of further weakening of the newly enslaved Poland. Since the Polish system of conscription that provided every graduate to become a reserve officer, the massacre was intended to eliminate a large part of the national ruling class. It should also be remembered that Stalin ordered the deportation to the same Siberia and Kazakhstan of Polish officers' families (including children), thus removing even the next generation. This removal was agreed and carried out by mutual agreement with Nazi Germany and the details discussed in meetings between the two allies. All this in the context of a partition of Poland between Nazi Germany and Soviet Union , two powers that represented two cultural systems and ideological opposites and antithetical, but, for about two years and until June 1941 , were linked by the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact , which established the mutual non-aggression and the partition of Poland and the Baltics .
On 5 March 1940 , according to disclosures prepared by Lavrenty Beria (head of the Soviet secret police ) directly to Stalin, some members of the politburo of the soviet - Stalin , Vyacheslav Molotov , Kliment Voroshilov , Anastas Mikoyan and Beria himself - signed an order of execution of activists "nationalists and counterrevolutionaries" held in camps and prisons in occupied parts of Ukraine and Belarus.
The discovery of the massacre in 1943 caused the immediate rupture of diplomatic relations between the Polish government in exile in London and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union denied the allegations until 1990 , when he recognized in ' NKVD responsible for the massacre and its cover .
